Summary

Amends the

Fisheries Administration Act 1991
and
Fisheries Management Act 1991
to: give effect to Australia’s obligations under the Convention on the Conservation and Management of Highly Migratory Fish Stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean; increase the exchange of information with foreign governments and international intergovernmental organisations in relation to suspected illegal fishers; provide for improved management of Australia’s fish stocks; and correct a drafting error. Also makes consequential amendments to the
Fisheries Management Act 1991
and
Migration Act 1958
contingent on commencement of the proposed
Border Protection Legislation Amendment (Deterrence of Illegal Foreign Fishing) Act 2005
